It was a fun and rewarding experience to work with the Lupus Society of Illinois as they raised money and awareness in the fight against lupus. During the event, I interacted with a number of people who were willing to share their story about why they were, and the impact lupus has had on their life and their family.
Admittedly, I did not know much about the disease. But I learned that it’s an autoimmune disease that disproportionally affects people with African, Caribbean, and Chinese decent more frequently than white people (though anyone can be affected); and lupus affects females nine times more frequently than males.
If you want to learn more about lupus, the Lupus Society of Illinois has a variety of informative resources on their website.
